Barb, that is in garage, and I do that because the expanse of it is so huge, plus bunching them together I hope keeps it a bit warmer.

Nice that it's grown so large.

It was given to me by a former boss who had it and out grew the room they kept it in during the winter, otherwise I wouldn't own one but don't want to turn down a freebie!

How's your CIDP doing that you planted? how did you protect that?

I almost lost one of mine, all the leaves yellowed and someone here said to water the heck out of it and it popped back with a vengeance.

My planted CIDP looked great all summer, but didn't seem to grow very much.
I had expected it to take off once it was in the ground, despite cutting half the roots off (again) from the garbage can container.
By Fall, it suddenly had pushed 3 spears, none of which pushed any further before cold hit.
Camera was broken so I protected palm without any photos being taken.
Spring will tell the story.

EDIT: oh, protected it the same way as the Washys out front. 6ml vapor barrier, with C9 lights lying on the ground, then overwrapped with solar pool blanket plastic.

I'll be anxious to see in the spring how yours did over wintering. I have 4 in pots, all bought when I did my road trip to San Diego. Very cheap to buy at box stores there. One of them is a Silver Date(larger) and the other large one is a regular CIDP both will stay in the pots. I picked up two smaller ones though with the intent of planting one in the ground...when I figure out where and watch and see how yours did. I'd also like to plant a Waggie in the ground as well.

My wife isn't all that happy with so many palms in the house this time of year...including our bedroom so I try not to put too many in our bathroom as well.

I do keep my Joey, Zebra palm and a new addition a tiny Pinanga Crassipes in there. Last year I had the tub full of palms but this year I've kept it free and just use the outer edges for palms mentioned.

Ooooh, love Silver date palms!
I have a couple of little seed-started Waggies in pots...they didn't like summer's heat the last 2 summers.

Re the CIDP, I only had 1 short string of lights for ground heat inside its enclosure.
After a low of -21C (-6F) a couple of weeks ago, it'll be a miracle if it survived.
Can't look until end March as everything's taped shut.

Silver dates with any size were hard to find but before I made my road trip I looked on Craigslist for the San Diego area and found a couple of hobbyists that grow and sell palms so visited their place at their house and filled up my truck. AMAZING selections and prices I went nuts. One guy only had the one Silver date in a 10 gallon container and was just $35 I keep it and my large CIDP across from each other on my patio. They are very drought hardy but loves water too.

It's too bad that neither do any sort of mail order though, or I'd have a ton more.
