Eh coltrane....
I wasnt talking about good ole humulis ( which has very little or no blue colouration at all)...... there is a colour variation, called "chamerops humulis var. ceifera". From the pics ive seen of them, they arent quite as blue, but are very close......

Canadianplant, I still had the plant tag for that palm. It says cerifera, but I dont always trust the tags. I think it probably is
though. It was exposed to a couple night of 10f.
Those first pics dont really do it justice. Here are some better ones of the newer leaves. Maybe they just get more blue/silver
as they age. Im not sure.

Those sure look like C. h. cerifera to me.
Given how well my regular green C. humilis grows, I should get another "cerifera."
But coltrane, do get a Brahea. They are stunning. I'm hoping to buy one on a future road trip to Texas.
Can you buy palms at places to the south you drive to anyways?
My little Brahea (and the deceased cerifera, for that matter) were tiny specimens I brought home in carry-on bags from a plane trip to the west coast a few years ago.
The car works much better! My Sabal mexicana were sweet deals this time last year in Dallas. In 5 gallon pots they were $15. Stokes Tropicals in Louisiana (not that far from you) is offering 75% off all plants right now. I'll bet you could make a weekend trip to the south and get some great plants very cheap this weekend or next. Hopefully a big Brahea!
Erik, your right. Im gonna have to do some driving if I hope to find a brahea. Id rather do that than mail order anyways. I think
I'll wait till spring though cause the chances of finding one will probably be better. Im anxious to try a w. robusta here as well, so maybe
I can kill two birds with one stone.
I'll look into that place in Louisiana.

Coltrane,
this is definitely the best time to get cheap palms.
Here are four Brahea armata I got today for free. They are in front of my in-ground Brahea, which is pretty much hidden.

Free???!!!!!! You lucky dog. Wish I had your connections. Those are beauties.

Erik, you're a lucky man...F R E E????
The first one on the left -- the one on "stilts", ha ha, needs some soil around those roots before the wind snaps 'em off.
Those pots are the flimsy ones (which makes it easy).
I know how reluctant you are to repot and cause root damage.
If you don't want to invert and gently pull the palm out, you can cut the entire plastic bottom off the pot gently with pruners and plant the whole thing.
Beautiful blue!
Sheesh...maybe if I think really hard of something I want...it'll appear on my patio the next day 😀 😀
Congrats on being in the right place at the right time.

If you drink, don't drive. Don't even putt.
I'm trying the little brahea armata outdoor. It seems like this one is suffering from our rains 😈
Serj,
keep us updated.
I got scared and dug up the little one I planted out last April. It will spend the winter indoors in a pot again. --Erik
Very nice palms Erik, can't beat that price 😉
Bill
I have on in my yard. It has been planted in the ground for 5 years.
It grows very slowly in our climate.
2 Fronds a year but mine is in partial shade.

Thanks for sharing, and do keep us updated.
As I mentioned, I dug my little one up. It is in a pot next to my four new gift Brahea up against the west wall of the house. They'll come inside to a poorly heated room (lows in the room to 5 oC last winter) by a south window, with lights on timers.
If yours makes it, I might try one outside next year in a raised bed for good drainage.
