Yes, the snow is gone again. LOL. Non-winter continues, 42 today, 48 tomorrow, 50 Monday. My ground has ZERO frost in it. Was digging around in my beds a bit today, lol.

Magnolia 'Edith Bogue' is pretty burned, hoping it gets better with the years to come. -5F probably did the most damage. Most other nights were zone 8 or 9 with a spattering of zone 7.

How do you think everything looks?

Nice update Tim. Too bad about your EB Magnolia. I assume you got damage since it's not established? It seems like -5F is too warm to do that kind of damage. I've hit -8F in my yard and never saw that....especially since you have lights on the tree too. I recall brownish leaves but no branch damage. My -8F was the first winter in ground too but I had some sort of open greenhouse around it. A trunked Yucca treculeana died in their that winter so we know it got real cold. I had temp probes near it and I believe those hit -8F in the open greenhouse.....this was back in 2004-2005 winter.

I hope you have the 'real' EB and your nursery didn't mix them up or something like that. Bill MA had a Blanchard which totally fried out with branch damage too.......I think he didn't get a real Blanchard. Keep us posted and I hope to see less damage next winter.

Hey Tim, I've driven past this tree many times.

Is it an EB magnolia?

We've had 3 days of ice/fog (strange) so obviously not a good pic but the leaves were green as summer a few days ago.

<a href=" http://www.flickr.com/photos/southslope/6838042093/" title="005 by edible_plum, on Flickr"><img src=" " width="640" height="480" alt="005"></a>

Leaves aren't as large as yours, probably 3/4 the size I'd guess.

Over the last 4 or 5 years, I've never seen it with a cover or Christmas lights.

Bev,

That's not an Edith Bogue. I want an ID now because I want that tree!

Hi Barb,

😆 😆

So it is a magnolia?

It's planted on a median, exposed to salt, dog pee, car exhaust, outside the guy's fence.

Will go take another pic of it when this crappy ice-fog ends.
