A Few Smuggled FL-NC Plants!

I'll try to make another road trip to Texas this year and pick up some more palms.
I was in an old Toyota Rav4 last October which limited my selection.

Those Butias are magnificent!

Get that tree fern in a big pot if your not planting it outside-
it will start putting out monster fronds!

My C.cooperi has been the fastest growing plant for me all winter!

I really love those Butias!
I think my B.eriospatha and W.robusta will put on some serious growth this year!

You where right Jim about them not liking being in the house. Since last night it shriveled up to leaves, to the basement it goes. It should perk back up I hope.

Erik, you could pack a rav 4 really good, that's has much more room then my car. I would love to see what Texas has to offer some day, til then Florida will have to do. I posted a question about your butia asking how it was doing under the heat cables post, I figure I'll ask here to just in case you don't see it there. Just curious!

I didn't even think of putting the palms on the roof of my car Barb. I'll have to remember that one for next time 😉 They were packed in there pretty good, I most likely could have fit one or two more seven gallons in there if I really tried but I didn't want my women to behead me when I got home. She's a good sport about it but the plants are starting to take over the house. I need to water stuff in the green house so I can move some of the stuff down there. I'll take some pictures for you Barb.

It probably didn't like the heat/dry air of the car ride.
They are one of those plants that gets a little shocked when their environment changes.
They are also one of those plants that respond to humidity above all else.
Probably not an issue outside most of the time as the nights are usually humid enough to make
them happy for a while 😆

I can't say for sure but the soil looked dry to me in your picture.
What are you going to do with it? Is it going in the ground?
They dry out fast in small pots.

I going to keep it in a pot. The soil was pretty dry, the funny thing is I watered it only a few days ago. Crazy on how fast it crapped out on me.
It sucked up like two gallons of water today, the cell structure must be maid out of a sponge. This must be a everyday water plant. Live and
learn, good thing they grow fast right.

That tree fern will hate being in a warm dry house.
Put it in the bathroom if you have room, needs high humidity 100% of the day.
House air is death for ferns of all kinds.

my wife is into horses. So, my plan is to wait until we are in Texas for a horse show with the truck and horse trailer. It is tall (8') as we used to have a Clydesdale. Of course then I have to make sure a horse doesn't get bored on the drive home and eats my new palm....

One of my D.squarosas started to dry up too,even though it's in a little covered G-house inside.

Yea-your right though,they do grow fast!

I have really enjoyed watching my Cooperi put out leaves this winter,it's launching about one per week now!
