Was going to close everything up this weekend -
except the Needles and Sabal as the Tuesday forecast was
14F/34F and they were saying maybe not out of the 20s.......
That has changed now to low 30s and highs 45-50F....
so,they stay out for a while longer...

First off the Washy and Martianus since they will be covered first...the Washy is still growing!

<a href=" .html" target="_blank"><img src=" " border="0" alt=" photo 100_7593_zpse629af39.jpg"/></a>

<a href=" .html" target="_blank"><img src=" " border="0" alt=" photo 100_7592_zps24d6e722.jpg"/></a>

<a href=" .html" target="_blank"><img src=" " border="0" alt=" photo 100_7607_zps162768ee.jpg"/></a>

Chilly Martianus...

<a href=" .html" target="_blank"><img src=" " border="0" alt=" photo 100_7589_zpsebebcfc8.jpg"/></a>

A little happier now...

<a href=" .html" target="_blank"><img src=" " border="0" alt=" photo 100_7619_zps68711bfa.jpg"/></a>

8am soil temp @ 4"

<a href=" .html" target="_blank"><img src=" " border="0" alt=" photo 100_7595_zps3168ffec.jpg"/></a>

Well recovered Fortunei

<a href=" .html" target="_blank"><img src=" " border="0" alt=" photo 100_7610_zps91cf9722.jpg"/></a>

His cousin across the cactus patch.

T.Nainital

<a href=" .html" target="_blank"><img src=" " border="0" alt=" photo 100_7602_zps81793afc.jpg"/></a>

Other Fortunei(this time)

<a href=" .html" target="_blank"><img src=" " border="0" alt=" photo 100_7614_zps0186f452.jpg"/></a>

<a href=" .html" target="_blank"><img src=" " border="0" alt=" photo 100_7608_zpsbc61f13f.jpg"/></a>

Princeps....I bet the trunk and overall size double next year-provided it makes it there.

<a href=" .html" target="_blank"><img src=" " border="0" alt=" photo 100_7596_zpsdc534e72.jpg"/></a>

<a href=" .html" target="_blank"><img src=" " border="0" alt=" photo 100_7597_zps7e053864.jpg"/></a>

<a href=" .html" target="_blank"><img src=" " border="0" alt=" photo 100_7600_zps0808263b.jpg"/></a>

<a href=" .html" target="_blank"><img src=" " border="0" alt=" photo 100_7609_zps752aedb3.jpg"/></a>

T.Tesan...quite the stout little palm!

And tough.

<a href=" .html" target="_blank"><img src=" " border="0" alt=" photo 100_7618_zps69e84457.jpg"/></a>

T.Bulgaria

<a href=" .html" target="_blank"><img src=" " border="0" alt=" photo 100_7615_zps18613588.jpg"/></a>

<a href=" .html" target="_blank"><img src=" " border="0" alt=" photo 100_7612_zps3533b389.jpg"/></a>

The other Needle-never pulled,beside the Sabal,this may
be the only palm that hasn't pulled.

<a href=" .html" target="_blank"><img src=" " border="0" alt=" photo 100_7616_zps57893d33.jpg"/></a>

T.Wagnerianus,I fire trimmed this one too.

<a href=" .html" target="_blank"><img src=" " border="0" alt=" photo 100_7613_zps081a341b.jpg"/></a>

Smaller Waggie

<a href=" .html" target="_blank"><img src=" " border="0" alt=" photo 100_7617_zps4386f99e.jpg"/></a>
<a href=" .html" target="_blank"><img src=" " border="0" alt=" photo 100_7611_zpsead5fac2.jpg"/></a>

THANKS FOR LOOKING

Nice to get one last look for a few months.

I'd like to give a "shout out" to the needle palm. Yes, you have to protect them where you live, but they are very tough and give a much greater margin of error than (e.g.) Washy.

Look at the filaments on the Washy's newest spear
Washies seem to do the same as Trachies growing so late into the Fall.

Gotta get me one of those soil temp probes.

Apart from snow trace, photos could be September 1st, everything looks THAT good.

Of course, the Waggie and Princeps are vying for the crown in the beauty pageant.
😉

The Washy spear was opening...I hated to wrap it!

Ran out of materials, ended up hacking the big Fortunei back and
had to build 2 new enclosures + well...lets just say,I went out at 7am
to beat the rain or try to-and didn't finish until sunset, whata pain in the back.

I had the build a whole new container for the Butia because it more than doubled
and ended up using a wool blanket, poncho and a tarp,I will let you know how that works out-
The Nainital cover was pieced together a-lah Frankenstein.

...better than going out there at 4 a.m. in your PJs at 10F.
Re-building a la Frankenstein...know the feeling well 😉

Time to buy another roll of fence/cattle wire and a big roll of bubble wrap...and bungee cords...and more lights...and more mulch. 😆 😆

Wool blanket, poncho and a tarp
Bin der, dun dat.

Yeah, it's tough to wrap a Washy spear when it's just opening up...so long and beautiful and filaments in all directions.
Sad to cover Rip van Winkle.

No work = no materials = no bubble wrap.

Had to create enclosures with "found" objects" 😀

Raid somebody's barn--with permission--helping them to clean it out. 😆 😆

Always full of STUFF that people no longer use, but "it'll come in handy one day".

Look forward to seeing pics of your expanded protection.
From the forecast, looks like you'll be busy TODAY. 😕

My downstairs neighbors moved out and left a bunch of stuff-
I pilfered the couch pillow covers to put over 3 of the Sabals-
trust me,they weren't good for anything else 😯 ...
think I got some old covers there too-for putting under the lids 😡

Everything is well covered, got about 7 remote sensors in various palms
and a probe sensor that can be poked into any of the covers for an
instant check up-diagnostics are important this time of year since
there are 9 different sizes/types of protect with at least 3 variations
of heat source or usage... 🙄 anyway, good early test to calibrate :help: :sleepy1: :sleepy2: :lickice: :sign6: :tongue8: :hiding: :banghead:

No snow on the ground here.

Perfect using that found stuff! 😀

got about 7 remote sensors

I only have 3, and they were "reading" each other. 😕
Does that happen with yours?

Now one has quit entirely, just showing two blank lines. 😐

Sometimes...there are so many different kinds though now -left over...

I test them by putting the sensor in the freezer-2 at a time, with their
increasing age usually 2 enter but only one(if I am lucky) leaves... 😀

Typical crap being manufactured nowadays.
When I buy something, I want it to be RELIABLE for more than a year or two.

I hear ya...

btw--getting a little cross over from the T.ferns Accu-rite and the Washys Accu-rite...
good thing there is another in with the Butia(same T-3)... I don't obsess about the
temps as much these days...I will settle for knowing the T-3 is working.

Exactly, Jim.
That was my #1 concern as the cold arrived.

And 2 of my inside "readers"...a couple of feet apart...are showing INDOOR temps with 3 degree variation. 😕
The dog must be breathing on one of 'em. 😐
