Im looking for a source for one of these babies. I had no idea they were even in cultivation yet. But after researhig " living fossil plants", i find out, its available in the UK, and the states, for decent prices. So far no luck on finding a canadian source for this tree. Id have to grow it indoors for the winter here, but it can take full shade.

Right now it looks like they're sold out, but maybe they'll have more for spring!

Barb do you have EVERY plant i want or what LOL.

It looks really really heatly. They look like some sort of a cycad pine hybrid. The price on JP.com is 199$ excluding shipping, a bit above my price range ATM, but in retrospec, a deal and a half.

Here's a few of us going ga-ga over receiving them a few years ago:

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Thanks Aaron, it's so cool to have one, considering their historical significance.

I'm looking forward to seeing that "bubbly chocolate" bark. 8)

Thanks Jim.

It's good that there are so many Wollemi pines out in the trade now that no-one has to put a "steel anti-theft cage" over them anymore.
I was paranoid about theft when I first received mine.
Needless, nobody even noticed it...must've thought it was a pine tree.

All the Botanical Gardens had to install steel cages, as BGs were the only ones to receive the tissue cultured ones that Queensland first issued.

Here's the Kew Gardens one, first one in the UK (probably 1995?).

I tried to propagate my Wollemi pine without success.....the cuttings died after 5 months. Mine is outside in a lame greenhouse with xmas lights. I'll be surprised if it survives since the temp inside is no warmer than outside at night! It does get warmer during the day. PS, killed one outside in 2008.

Hi Tim,
a shame cuttings made it only 5 months.

I thought they could handle some cold too as in the Blue Mountains region temps can dip to -3C 27F.
But I really think these guys are "programmed" for the southern hemisphere, so lots can go wrong.

Seems to me I read the plant suckers in habitat...wherever a branch touches the ground it apparently roots.
Good adaptation since rockfall is a hazard in those narrow deep canyons.

Hope yours makes it...
Barb
