All,
I'm looking for information on nurseries in the Tampa Bay area. My parents are heading down this week, and have promised to bring me back a couple 'houseplants' (to take advantage of the clause in cross border shopping that allows the import/export of non-CITES regulated plants as long as they are intended to be planted as houseplants).

If anyone has some suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

I'm interested in:
Cheap palms (Sabal, Serenoa, Trachycarpus, Rhapidophyllum, Butia, etc.)
Cheap bananas (Saba, etc.)
Anything else that might be cool.

Thanks!
Paul

Paul,
I have some Facebook buddies that live near there, but they only recently moved from Tulsa and so may not know nurseries yet. I'll ask them for you, but you may have to do what I did before my last trip to Dallas, TX, and go online.

Hey Erik,

Thanks!

I've been online and have found nothing good, really. I also checked the SPS board and received 1 reply... It's beginning to look like there might not be any really good nurseries in the area!

When I was in Ft. Worth, Texas, in October I bought a Saturday newspaper and looked for ads saying things like, "All palms 50% off." Maybe your folks would do that. Or you can read the Tampa newspaper online this morning.

Paul,
here is what my Tampa-area buddy, also named Paul, wrote me a minute ago:

"I really don't. I'll ask some of my co-workers. They should know. How are things back in the OK? I hear it's gotten a litte warmer these past couple of days."

Thanks Erik!

I will tell them to keep their eyes open... I am still suprised that no one on the SPS board replied...

Hey Paul,
I might be able to help you some. Where are you staying and when are you going? If you get me some more info
I think I can come up up with something for you. I have the whole sale book for all of Tampa Bay but most of the
places are a pain and need tax id numbers but not all.

I wouldn't worry to much about it Paul, if you go East from the coast inland nurseries are everywhere! The prices
are beyond cheap, trust me you'll be disgusted with prices everywhere else after seeing how cheap it is down there!

Check this site out you can get some phone numbers from it and see about websites.
www.tbwg.org This should get you started.

Bill
