That is some impressive growth there in one season! Last summer was my first time with Basjoo and I'm planning on unwrapping tomorrow maybe, not sure if its too soon. With hindsight I wouldn't have bothered as its been very mild although wet.

Awesome, your method looks great and they should fair well in your typical winter. I used the same exact technique and it rotted out due to Mother Natures unhappiness with my zone tinkering.... 😥

Hasty.... that is some phenomenal growth and coming from "Barb" County lots of dry summer heat. Of course those North American summers are to die for here. We caught a glimpse of it here last July. However we still cool dramatically in the evenings...a price we pay for 50degrees latitude and a maritime climate 🙄
I'm also intrigued about your rose. It looks dead after each Winter? Does it grow fresh shoots from the base? Camellia Japonica is usually hardy to -10C although I have found them much hardier. Is yours still alive?
Cheshire.... no need to have protected your Musa this Winter. I left my Basjoo and Sikimensis unprotected and they are still standing and starting to grow.

cheshire, excellent protection method.
I see you have a lot of wind atop that fence 😆 😆
Look forward to seeing more of your plants!

andy, 😆 "barb county".
Sure could use some of that dry heat right now, cold wind, high of 6C BRRRRRRRR!
Quick, dig out the bathing suits from the closet...
I think we had spring, last week.

Ditto here Barb, we had another nice spring weekend... shirt sleeve order again, but were due for some frosty nights next week while at the same time Marceli will be enjoying warm weather in Poland.

Yes they did grow during winter...wow 😀
Another testament to your protection.

They'll be twice the size of last year as a result.

Hello AndyM you asked about the rose and Camellia. So I took photos for you.

<a href=" .html" target="_blank"><img src=" " border="0" alt=" photo DSCF0328_zps4f0f6feb.jpg"/></a>

<a href=" .html" target="_blank"><img src=" " border="0" alt=" photo DSCF0370_zps2bee7636.jpg"/></a>

<a href=" .html" target="_blank"><img src=" " border="0" alt=" photo DSCF0371_zps1c993db1.jpg"/></a>

As you can see the rose is doing good and grows from where it left off last year, actually I cut it down in size.

The Camellia died . I did not cover properly.

Basjoo update, all going well, the main problem is leaf shredding due to high winds last week. Things settling down this week ans sunny after lots of rain, so should see some good growth! 🙂
