I had the local garden center order me in a 15 gallon Edith Bogue as they normally aren't carried up here. Tag on the plant says Zone 5+ so hopefully with some light protection the next few winters this will establish nicely. Planted it yesterday.
What's the best way to prune this so I can get it into tree form as quick as possible?

great looking EB specimen! I hope this one does better than the others you've tested. 8)

Thanks Tim.
What do you think about my '24 below'? Here is how it looks as of today.

Hi Tim,
your -24 below looks OK. Do you think it's OK? I'm sure it will take another month before you see progress with -24 since mags are on the slow side. Keep us updated. 😉

I think its ok. At least the stems aren't turning black like they did on my other Edith Bogue last year.

nice!! Love them. Do you even need to protect it? No one protects them here and everyone has them all over the place. Even the juvies are unprotected. Once in a while they may get some leaf burn but that's i. They get huge!!!!!!

Before assaulting your new plant (by pruning it), allow it to get established. Begin shaping it this time next year, or you risk the fate of your last one. Avoid trauma if at all possible. Nice tree.

I've sprayed mine with wilt proof so far the first 2 winters. It's only had to weather a zone 7b and 7a winter so far though. My E.B. was about the size of yours when I planted it. Being a larger size should probably help make it through the winter as well.
