As I missed the frost at my house in Toronto, I assumed it wouldn't be bad near Kingston... Boy was I wrong. Here are some recent shots showing the extent of a late freeze (after 1.5 months without) on several 'hardy' plants:
Rhododendron schlippenbachii (azalea):

Cactus didn't seem to mind ehh?
I had to wonder what might happen up north with some of the chilly weather here.
Seems anytime April is mild May has the balance-

Tough love on the rhodies up there Paul, the yellow one looks really nice though.

Ya- It sucks that the new growth got blasted...
The cactus must have to face late frosts all the time in the wild...

Yea,I think only the flower petals would be sensitive if open and
even then it would probably take(close too) an all day freeze to waste them 😕

There's something so pretty about katsura leaves.
Probably because they somewhat resemble trembling aspen, which I find striking.
We used to have sensitive annuals and new perennial growth before the end of April.
Wonder if mid-May will become the norm.
So much for global warming...OK climate change.
