Here's what a Musa basjoo looks like after exposure to sub freezing air! You can tell it wasn't too much below 0 since the folaige in 'protected' spots is still bright green! These plants are at my garden near Kingston, ON. The official low at the airport was -0.6C, I probably hit more like -1 or -2C being inland from the lake shore...

We had a frost here in T.O. as well with the official low at the airport hitting 2.1C (~34-35f). Some plants are still fine, others in more exposed locations are a little burnt.
Definitely into the fried banana sandwich weather now.
Mine are getting the -stack them in your pickup and drive down the highway
treatment today,if today doesn't finish them off, upper 20s Friday morning just might. 🙄

It is definitely the time of year to enjoy Musa while you can. I haven't had a frost yet but they are still complaining.
My craziest story doesn't involve me (for once). A buddy who loves bananas is going through a divorce. He plans to dig up his favorites and move them into his new home. A 19th story apartment. A tiny one. Just hope he doesn't ask for help--I have enough chores right now. --Erik
Ensette leaves still green here! Can't complain.

Tim,
are you going to get hit by the huge storm Jim and I (and presumably Paul) have had?
The winds were not kind to Musa, and it will bring my first freeze Friday morning.
If your Ensette holds up, I'll definitely get one for next year!

Erik- The wind here in the big city (Toronto) has not been bad at all. It was supposed to be vicious, but the sting seems to have been taken out of it! I can't speak for my location to the north-east, however.
Tim- You've not even had frost yet! That's not fair...

My banana's by the house are still fine!! The ones further out in the garden don't look good.. Still we've only had two very light frosts, no killing one yet. My castor bean still looks mint. I think they are calling for a -2c night middle of next week. That aught to do them all in...

They still look good.
Enjoy them while you still can.
I will have to try and post a pic of mine.
