Woo Hoo!
I finally got one of my Musa sikkimensis "Daj Giant" seeds to sprout!
Since it was raining here yesterday, I finally desided to set up my heating pad.
I went out to get this tray and found this guy!

Thanks,

Benjamin Green

Hope you have as much success as I have had with seed germination and growth.
The red tiger seeds started last Xmas is now 17ft tall,or was rather,it's now about 10ft,had to cut the leaves all off and a few feet off the trunk just to get it inside a 11ft greenhouse.
My Orincco was even taller yet,and had to do the same with it,and they weighed way over a 100 pounds each.

From what I have researched you need temperature fluxuations. Thats the major key.
This sprouted when I was having daytime highs of 80F-85F and lows of 47F-53F for about 2 weeks.

Here are a couple links you may want to look at:
http://www.bioversityinternational.org/publications/Web_version/52/ch34.htm

On this link you can download 2 papers about banana seed germination
http://www.bananas.org/showthread.php?t=2725

I am in the process of setting up a winter germination project. Almost everything is bananas.

The seedling is now starting to push out it's second leaf, I will try and get an updated pic tomorrow 🙂

Thanks,

Benjamin Green

Ben,
Looking good, give it a little sun,but if you see the edges burning, back off a little, without some sun they become leggy and fall over.
Just planted some pink banana seeds today,I hope they germinate fast!
