Is there any problem with the Miscanthus spreading seed nearby in your great yard?
Have heard people say the stuff comes up everywhere.

The yucca elata twins have sure grown, as have your palms and banana and bamboo.

Rather than that agave being mush in 5 months, wouldn't a couple of cardboard boxes (inverted) save it?

Barb- I wish the Miscanthus was spreading elsewhere in the yard since that would mean less lawn to cut! I love it, no plant I grow is more rewarding. The growth type seems like a clumping bamboo with an outward spread of maybe 6" per year. I'd like to spread it to get more clumps going...
I'm thinking about placing an overturned ice cream container (with holes poke in the side) on the Agave. I've heard of this working elsewhere in the northeast.

To get more Miscanthus, would it work to spade down between the spreading growth and the parent plant, and plant the divisions. Probably be faster than waiting for it to spread into that huge yard of yours! 😆

I realize you want your plants to get hardier to overwinter without protection.
With your valuable specimens, that bucket idea will likely get them through the first few years until their hardiness improves with age.
