When people here talk about BLEs, I'm always surprised no-one mentions Euonymous.

Here's my variegated euonymous, after deer had been chewing on it all winter.
Not a great photo, but you get the idea.

Absolutely bulletproof in cold.

If you drink, don't drive. Don't even putt.

Yes, it's a beautiful plant! I have a few varieties growing well in my zone. I like the wild variety very much. It is robust, very fast rowing and never loosing the leaves no matter how low a winter temperature is...

Yes, Igor, and they provide a nice contrast to evergreens.

So yours isn't evergreen, Andy?
Or was it simply hit with some unexpected cold?

Hi Barb,

do the deer ever eat palms? 😕

If a deer ate my palms, it would be the only reason I would eat deer meet. Bring on the moose though!

My dog keeps deer away from my palms and cycads, thankfully.
She must've been on a coffee break here:

Young deer are destructive; they're just learning what to nibble on.
Whitetail deer are worse than mulies...they'll eat the bumper off a Ford before they realize it's not food.

IF the bumper was off of anything other then a ford the deer would stand a chance 😀

You ever think of making a deer deflecting hedge barb?

a deer deflecting hedge

nope, pretty tough on 15 acres.
Not really worth the trouble...dog(s) are the answer.
