Does anyone know what hardy types their will survive my extremely harsh killer winters?

What ones do that carry?

Fargesia murielei (from Tropic to Tropic) survived last winter for me. I put a 1 gal plant in the ground last spring and almost nothing died back. All of the Fargesias are clumping bamboo and do not need to be contained. Most of them are hardy in Zone 5.

I haven't talked to Broadway. Their website www.broadwaygardens.com says that they have F. rufa and F. robusta. Both should survive Zone 5 and need a little shade.

Broadway doesn't state what varieties of Phyllostachys they have. If you want a taller, running bamboo try to get P. nuda which is supposed to be rated Zone 4b and is supposed to be about the hardiest bamboo. Most running bamboos need to be contained. The colder the zone the less inclined the running bamboo is to spread.

An online Bamboo retailer in BC is a good source of information. I have never bought from them and don't know their quality. Try www.bambooworld.com

You don't have to be crazy to grow palms in Alberta..... But it helps

Well if the can survive in your area so can my area 😀

I just built my garden bed and those types you gave me
I will try them. I will look for the biggest types.

I will make sure that they won't spread and become invasive If its warm
enouth.

Broadway might carry some of the hardiest types but maybe not all
so I hope for the best.

Thanks, Alchris
