The lower spikes are turning yellow then black and dying at a rate of 3-4 every 4-6 days.
Am I not waering enough. I water sparingly, like with a cup every 10 days.
I have not taken it outside yet to saturate since I bought it. It has been too cold.
This is the only thing I can think of.
What kind of plant is it Kansas? I think it needs more water. Just as general rule always water when soil is dry. Water well then let soil dry, water well then let soil dry. All my plants are in window light and I water them about every 3-4 days. I don't go by how many days , I go by if the soil is dry or not. I use that rule for almost everything I grow, even for most of my cactus 🙂
Try watering it straight for a couple of days then give it water when soil dries.
If the top of the soil (potting soil) is so dry that you can stir it like uncooked rice then it is way to dry.

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.
