We are going to Las Vegas for 5 days next week. I have found a number of nurseries in the area and will be looking for chollas, agaves, and 2 or 3 year old potted palms that I can bring back as house plants in my and my wife's carry on luggage.

Has anyone had experience with the nurseries is the Las Vegas area?

Allen

You don't have to be crazy to grow palms in Alberta..... But it helps

You may already know this but check with customs before yopu bring a plant back from the USA. They may require a phyto certificate.
I brought back some chamaerops humilis seed from there.

I can bring back one or 2 house plants without a problem. I can also bring back seed in commercial packs.

I can't bring back any CITES plants or seed which eliminates several smaller cacti.

I will need a P cert. for everything else.

Remember to not spend all your money in the casino! Save some for a plant purchase.
Have fun, Barrie.

You can always ship the plants to your house while you're in Las Vegas.

Neither the wife or I are gamblers. We are going to Vegas for the shopping and the sights/vegetation. I am only hoping that she sets aside enough money to cover plants and gambling.

I would love to ship the plants back. But current overnight temperatures might kill or damage some of them. That does merit further research. Thanks.

Other than nurseries and the plants I bring back, I'm not saying anything.

We were not able to get any cactus, agave or palms while we were in Vegas.
Nurseries had not got their palm stock yet and most that sold agaves and cacti did not normally have named varieties. The freeze in California severely reduced the nursery stock available.

There were 2 nurseries that specialize in Cacti and agave that hoped to have named variety stock soon;

Cactus Joe's in Blue Diamond and
Turner's Nursery in north west Las Vegas

I can get anyone the details of these 2 along with a list of most of the nurseries in Vegas if anyone would like them when I get back from Brooks, AB. My dad had a stroke and is not expected to survive this week.

I will post pics of the Ethel M Choclate cactus garden and the other palms later.

Best wishes to you and your family. It's difficult I know, having gone through the same thing in Sept 2005.
Cheers, Barrie.

I'm sorry for your loss, Allen. He'll live forever in your memories.

It IS tough...but I'm lucky, as my Dad's ashes are scattered at our large pond's perimeter, where he loved to spend time.
I visit him daily.
