I though my D wheeleri was dead so it's been outside in the pot with no protection with a low of 20 F. I spotted a new spear emerging! I just placed it into my garage. Will it survive the 20F being in wet soil? This is a good test.

The wet soil was a big risk.
But heck, there are some on Vancouver Island where it rains 364 days out of 365.

I hope it does.
The 20f should not hurt it, but the wet soil/crown might. I just talked to my AZ nieghbors and they had the same temp this morning as I did 18F and there is many wild Dasylirions w. in the area. 😀

Dasylirions in Vancover............cool. Any photos? I brought a 5 gallon D. wheeleri back to Massachusetts after visiting Tucson, AZ back in 2004...or 2005. It died it's first winter here.......we get way too much precipitation.......they melt here. 😆
We'll see how it recovers after being outside soaking wet/frozen solid........it's in the garage now.

Tim, I think if mine ever get big enough to plant, I'm going to winterize mine like you did your rostrata.

Dasys don't like the wet for sure. Dasylirion Serrulatum perished in my garden being left out unprotected. All my dasylirions are now kept dry for Winter.
