So far this winter we have had lows down to 2F. Looks like my loses so far are aloe aristata, agave utahensis and chrysantha. Once again havardiana and ovatifolia are unfased without any protection.

You won't have a problem with eucomis or hardy crinums. That spotted manfreda will surprise me if it makes it, though. Manfreda virginica should do well in your zone but isn't as showy. Tell me about agave Havardiana and ovatifolia. You say they'll live through zone 7 temps with precip? That's pretty awesome. I've got some havard pups I'm growing out to try in the ground. How long have you had both agave in ground? What low temps have they seen? How do they look after winter?

Thanks!

I have had the ovatifolia in ground for 4 years and the havardiana in ground for 6. Last year we seen our lowest temps of -1F. In 2010 the havardiana went through a awful winter being frozen for a month. Neither agave has shown any winter damage. Lost a larger ovatifolia last year but I believe the soil amendment was poorly done on my part. I have started using 75% non organic material like pea gravel and course sand. So far this year lechuguilla has been unfased. It has pups growing out of the protection and they are all perfect. Not bad for a first yr. Agave.

Snapped a few pics of A. Desmettiana today in the building as I was putting up a recent ebay shipment of new cold hardy plants.

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Snow and ice, going down to 0 deg F. Very uncommon winters for my area to have temps this low.

It only snowed 4" deep but agave havardiana is feeling the burn.
