I dug my Agaves up, tossed they in containers with no soil, placed them in my unheated garage and they did fine. They look great in the garden again. We get too much winter precipitation for agave.

Do you have pics of them?

I do agree with Tim that the winter moisture in the east is too much for them!

That said, I've seen people use things as simple as clear plastic containers for them. The only time I had luck they were protected with overhead protection from a lean-to covered in glass.

Looks like proto. I have one almost just like it. 😀

My Agave Montana has survived two very cold Winters on my patch and has an Evergreen Buddleja protecting it from overhead rain. As it grows in Oak woodland high up in Montane forests it is used to precipitation. However i do use overhead protection as i did last year on my small Chamaerops "Vulcano"in which I use clear corrugated plastic on a wooden frame.
I also have Havardiana,Neomexicana and Ovatifolia

Jim here are some pics of my Agaves I have 2 Parryi and 2 Harvardias in the ground in my raised cacti bed. I Also have potted 2 Americas and 2 America Varigata( one is small and is sharing a pot with a small Harvardia), and a Agave Cornelius. I am deff bringing the Americanas and Cornelius inside I know they can't take it. I love your Cacti Garden Jim, hopefully eventually my Agave's will be as big as yours.

I think these agaves should be fine once to be moisture protected. Hope mines will be reaching that size in a few years...

This agave is not Agave lophantha, this is Agave univittata. Agave univittata is more cold and moisure hardy than Agave lophantha and can survive low temperatures to -18 C.
