It seems DNA analysis of yucca whipplei has shown it to be somewhat less of a yucca and more of a Hesperoyucca (a small genus of three species of flowering plants in the family Agavaceae, closely related to, and recently split from, Yucca). Perhaps other yucca enthusiasts will find this interesting too. Cheers!

So now I'm hoping my Agave will actually be Yuccas 😆
Man... to have one like in that picture on the link, Duncan.
Thanks for that!

Hi Barb,
Glad to see you guys getting lots of heat of late. I think you'll definitely need one of those Joshua trees that John's talking about importing next spring 😀 !
Take Care!

Duncan, it's not the heat (which has been brutal) that worries me, it's winter 😆 😆
Firewood's ordered.
Bet your new desert landscape is doing well now that August has arrived.
Have you had lots of rain?

Yeah, the fires have been terrible 🙁 !
My desert garden is coming along nicely, despite probably slightly below seasonal temps. Yes, we have had a lot of moisture too, mainly in the form of severe thunder storms. Even my less hardy yuccas though (bacatta, rostrata and brevifolia), have shown very nice growth 8) !
Talk soon Barb!

Look forward to some new photos of your desert garden soon, Duncan.
The rains must've done wonders for settling everything in.
Lots of fires again this year here too, but with the current (wonderful) cooldown and one-third inch of very welcome rain, the air has finally cleared of smoke.
Heat's ramping back up to near-record temps in a couple of days.
Am enjoying the break from our summer heatwave.
Thanks for the whipplei clarification.

Too bad 'Yucca' whippeli is not a Yucca. People have tried t hybridize Yucca whippeli with other Yuccas without success........I guess we know why! Thanks for the report.
