Yuccas LOVE light.....the more the better

They're under grow lights with the Christmas palm seedlings, which are doing very well.

Hi Barb,

Keep me updated on the Yucca seedlings. It's a felony to kill Yucca seedlings 😆

Ha! I've got my Y. filata f2's in the greenhouse. Good germination thus far!

Tim, you can call off the constabulary, they ARE coming after all.

Today, the soil is lifting as though mushrooms are coming up 😀
Always wondered, when's the earliest to fertilize yucca seedlings?

Paul, look forward to your pics.

Barb

Hi Paul

Please keep me updated on the Yucca seedlings

Hi Barb

I'm pretty bad with fertilizer. I generally don't fertilize my Yucca seedlings.

I don't either. Makes for a stringy yucca. 😉

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Hi Aaron,

I'm not very familiar with all those southern Arizona Yuccas. Yucca arizonica, Yucca confinis and Yucca thornberi are kinda all lumped together. It may end up being easier to ID those when in bloom or perhaps when we see the seed pods. I'd do some research to see what traits separate those 3 yuccas from each other.

I did some research and it looks like that is the area for Y. baccata arizonica.

I thought all the baccatas looked taller than normal in that area. 😆

Hi Aaron,

I'm looking through some photos of Y. thornberi, confinis and arizonica with location data.....I don't know these areas perhaps you do.

Yucca thornberi - Oracle, AZ, Catalina Mts, AZ, Rincon Mts, AZ, Agua Verde Creek, AZ, Nogales, AZ

Yucca confinis - Apache, AZ, Rodeo, NM, Pendregosa Mts., AZ, Perilla Mts., AZ, Mule Mts, AZ

Yucca arizonica - Bisbee, AZ, Atlasco Mts, AZ, Altar Valley, AZ

"Yucca arizonica is clearly different from Yucca thornberi by the form of the rosettes and leaves and by the characteristics of the inflorescence".

I gotta do more research. I grew all from seed (assuming collector knows the differences??) and Y. thornberi was very much like Y. schottii in appearance. Yucca confinis is very much like Y. baccata. I forget Y. arizonica.....perhaps I have some photos.

A few other traits:

Yucca arizonica = leaves rarely straight, to 3 meters tall
Yucca confinis = leaves straight, marginal fibres fine, to 1.5 meters tall
Yucca thornberi = leaves with a smooth surface (baccata rough surface)

Great Yucca photos Aaron......the 2nd one sure looks like it's got some baccata and schottii in it.

Thanks Tim. They are all the same sp. These are some I had on my property. They are some form of baccata, but I now belive them too be var. arizonica. This is just a guess, but they are the same baccatas that are by Bisbee and Tombstone. When I first seen the bigger ones I thought they might be Torreyi, but I knew they were not found in AZ.
I can tell you this, they are different than the baccatas at higher elv. Or atleast the ones at higher elv. are much smaller.

High in the Chiricahua's
