Nice Yucca torreyi! It's also great to see a torreyi growing in zone 5b!!! very cool.

It died in that crappy winter from last year, looked fine, than as it warmed up it died. I still have 2 more, one on higher ground and one that needs to be moved. They lived. 😀
My big one died from rot-root...I think? 😕

Hi Aaron,

I remember my trunked Y. treculeana died from winter cold. The trunk was the least hardy part of the plant. The leaves were green in late February but the trunk was dead. A month later the leaves were all brown. Maybe your Y. torreyi's will do the same. Once the growth point is about ground it will die from cold? Funny thing is the Y. rostrata survived that winter. Low was -8F......and they had protection against winter rain/snow............didn't work well with windy snow. 😆

I think what did it in was it was still growing good in the fall (up against a west wall) and the next night was -4F, then a heavy wet snow and then wind and more below 0 temps. Warmed up again over the winter and my plants started too rot. More or less like that. 😆

The other 2 small ones I had covered, and the one in Twin Falls Idaho (uncovered) did fine. 😀

Two lovely specimens Aaron 😀 I have to say that I get confused between Yucca Torreyi and Yucca Baccata.... they do look similar. I have Yucca Baccata but when I see your larger Torreyi I see a double take
