Barb
Those Rostrata are the size of the one I planted in my cactus garden April 2008.
I dub thee The Yucca man Tim-let it be written cuz it's already done 🙂
BTW
The seeds you sent me started sprouting last Sunday.

That's my point...look at how yours have grown
Mine have done ka-ka in all that time.
I should stick to palms...
BUT, yup, my Big Mama seeds are sprouting too.
Then they'll put the brakes on. 🙄

If you drink, don't drive. Don't even putt.
Yes, Yuccas stop growing just like Washingtonia palms once the root tips don't have room. Barb...you can relate to Washingtonia not growing when pot bound.....right 😀
Yea Barb....if you have difficulties with Y. rostrata............schottii is even harder. I don't want to make you feel bad but I tossed a trunked Yucca gloriosa 'treculeana form' behind my shed and it did this..............I can't kill it!
A few more shots of schottii

Dead seedlings with small trunk diameter............it appears the trunk is the least hardy part of schottii like Y. treculeana.........hmmmmmm are they related?? 😉

Hi Barb,
Yucca soil is less rich than palm soil too. If your using a high organic soil mix 1/3 sand or 1/3 perlite in it.

You tossed that behind the shed and it didn't die? :occasion5:
Nope, you're not making me feel bad at all, I appreciate the advice and warnings.
How could there be stunted roots...Those slurp cups are almost 10 inches tall! 🙄
My 2008 pic yucca seedling mix does look "organic" (post-watering), but not really.
Mostly just sandy gritty stuff around here, added some bark pieces just to give it something ... well .... organic.
OK everybody...cancel all my yucca orders.
But the Big Mamas are coming up in the basement. 😐
And I finally remembered to bring the Dasylirion wheeleri community pot back inside after a -8C 17F night.
Yup, I do recall the Washingtonia...and the CIDP...and the Trachy...

I have some plants that need to be thrown behind your shed. 😉

Hi Aaron,
where is the HUGE Y. schottii specimen? That's the largest schottii I've ever seen!
Your specimen blows away the Y. schottii on top of Mount Lemmon, Arizona.

Hey Barb,
17F on your D. wheeleri seedlings?? Your pushing their limits. Are they OK? Do you have an update photo on those babies??
I took this photo of the Dasylirion wheeleri at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC a few year back......it died down there in the 'tropics'. They really don't like excess moisture.........keep the rain off them.

It was in Pearce/Sunsites AZ at the bank, just down the road from my place.
Those pics that you posted, did you go to Mt Lemon?
I know the Y. shottii in the dragoons and the mules were big. 😉

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Hi Aaron,
yes, I have relatives in Tucson. We took a trip up to the top of Mt. Lemon. That's my brother in the photos. What a great place to visit. I could have stayed in AZ forever!

One of these years we may have too meet down there and go for a hike for seeds. 😀

Here's a pic of that same Y. shottii at the bank in Sunsites, before they trimmed it. 😀

Hi Aaron,
funny thing........I didn't see any seeds or blooms on Mt. Lemon that year. Seed collecting would be great!
That huge Y. schottii untrimmed looks totally different.

I noticed that also. Seeds are hard to find in that area. Could be all the birds?
Y. shottii... So different, now everytime I see one untrimmed I wonder how it would look without the skirt. 😆
