Last winter, I brought my potted Yucca rostrata in for the winter. The trunked one got some fungal infection in the crown I had to treat. I wondered, though, if it wouldn't have been better to leave it outside. So, I have them outside this winter, albeit under cover and up against the front door of the apartment with a window, so that keeps them dry and gives them a few degrees of microclimate warmth.
I can easily bring them in if it gets real cold. So, any advice on forecast lows before I hussle them inside?

They are better outdoors. All new growth goes in to UV shock when brought out from in. Better off just keeping them out and dry. Only Yuccas brought in this year were the Y. brevifolia, torrei and schottii in pots. They'll go out again in a couple months, buy be introduced to direct sun slowly over two weeks. Prevents sunburn.
Reason for the brevifolias, was to put on some growth. For the other two, they are rated about 7a and we are 7a. Don't wanna push my luck if I can just bring them in.

she's a beauty...............can you bury the container in hay or leaves? If not I'd drag the rostrata inside when it drops below 20F.

Tim, OK, will do. Will be <20 F tonight. It has probably seen upper teens already (colder at airport, but counting on the microclimate effect).
Hope that super cold air Jim is warning about doesn't get this far south.
Beautiful Erik.
Seems protected there.
Would wrapping the pot in insulation plus cardboard around the trunk get it through?

If you drink, don't drive. Don't even putt.
Not sure what the roots of those will take-just make sure you don't water it.

Keeping them dry, Jim.
I did bring the pots inside as highs are only about freezing lately so it seemed a sure thing for the pots to freeze.
Wasn't sure if it would be practical to have applied sufficient insulation around the pots to avoid that, so in they came last night.
to have applied sufficient insulation around the pots
Better safe than sorry.
Virtually impossible to know what's just enough, without doing it the "hard way".
And saying, nope, that didn't work.

That trunked Yucca wasn't cheap, so W would have had a fit if it died. Had to keep that in mind. 😆

They never are...more demand than supply unfortunately.
One that size would be $300-$500 in Canada, IF somebody had them. 🙄
