here's the Yucca filata #5 which started to grow a trunk after this bloom died. PS, it's the Yucca on the left.

Is that the Big Mama one?
Or is that around the corner?
Gorgeous color.
Massive flower stalk 😯

Hi Barb,
'big mama' is around the corner in the back yard. This is the Yucca filata which is forming a trunk (no suckers, a new growth point is coming up next to the old bloom). Jim of Iowa asked to see a photo of it. These are the seeds I mailed out to a few folks.
Hi Mike,
No, you don't have this one. If you or anyone else wants seeds, let me know. The leaves are modified in width between filamentosa and elata.

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.
-Aaron-
It's interesting the range of habits from even that F1 cross... We can only assume that the f2 crosses will have even more variability.
FYI- the 'Big mama' seeds and the other one cross you sent (this one?) have all germinated. I'm going to be pressed for space in the cactus bed this summer!
Nice color plant, Tim!
getting warmer there Igor?? 😀

I guess you saw I got the seeds Tim-Thanks!
Can you post a pic of the 2 Yuccas that this hybrid is from and the big mama again if you can?
Thanks again Tim

Thanks everyone.
Hi Paul,
We'll see how variable the seedlings will be in the F2 cross. I won't start my seeds until May 1 or so even though the temps feel like I should be germ'n now.
I'm glad your seeds germed. Keep me posted on their variability.............PS, you'll find room!
Hi Jim,
I'm not on the Hardy Palm board very much and I knew you would see the filata on this board + I mailed these seeds to others on this board....they may want to see the filata too.
The 2 mother plants are not in my garden. These filatas in my garden were germinated in 2000 from seed I purchased in Germany from Navajo Country seed company. Fritz H. owned the company back then and hybridized them in his garden. The offspring of filamentosa x elata are very variable.
Here's a shot of the new growth coming up next to the old bloom stalk (Oct. 2011).

getting warmer there Igor?? 😀
Not really. .. We goona get another 10 days cold spell with a minimum down to minus 20C. Our weather is not playing around... It's killing... plants. Don't tell me I have a good climate for growing palms and Yucca rostrata!

Tim great to see the Yuccas doing so well. Question. I see that a new spear is growing from beside the old flower stalk on the Y. filata. I have a Y. rigida that sent up a flower stalk two years ago. It still hasn`t sent a new spear yet. I`m wondering if it will? Thanks,
John
