Winter...what winter, looks like a keeper!

The the yuccas that did the worst for me this past winter were Y. faxon even the new "hardy" (covered) one I got from High Country Gardens, Hesperaloe parviflora, and the third most damaged Y. elata (younger ones). 😕

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Looks great Tim.....it will spread out now though and make it tough to get into protection next year
as I am sure you know-will this one become hardier with age so you only need a top cover?

BTW-
We have been in the 70s the last few days(76F yesterday) and .70" of rain,I can see the biggest
Trachy has already grown a few inches from where I marked it!

Tim, what is the shorter yucca to the left. The one with the fat leaves?

Hi Tim.... it looks to have pulled through ok with some damaged outer leaves. 😀 One thing that has puzzled me is why you chose Carnerosana instead of Faxoniana which is more frost tolerant or maybe that was the reason 😉
I could of course be completely ga ga not knowing you have one but you have so many Yuccas I get confused 😆

Jim..........yes.......a top cover 'should' do the trick during winter. A dry Yucca in winter is a happy Yucca 😀

Aaron........the fat leaf Yucca to the left of the carnerosana is Y. cernua. It's like a wide leaf pallida which actually grows in our climate! 😆 Y. pallida is not that happy in our climate........need a higher pH? I did purchase a bag of lime already for the Yucca bed. I'll have to buy a few more bags this season.......lets see if there will be an improvement??
