Wonderful news, Aaron!
Yes..Thank You!
Here's something for people to think about.
Both of these j-trees are the same age, and both have frozen to the ground in the past. The big one has been moved to a better spot and has doubled in size in a year, and the other (small one) was also moved to a better spot last summer. We will see what it does this summer. The point is, if you can a find a spot where they like it they will show it. 😀
And here is the bigger one the year before.

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

It grew THAT MUCH in one year? :compress:
So the first pic was the wrong spot...because it wasn't raised up?
Made it easy for watering though...
New spot over the septic tank by any chance? 😆
I'll pick the best spot for my last y.rostrata ... oh, and I've got the unknown yucca to plant too.
Great comparison pics, Aaron.

nice to see the J trees happy in all that cold. What's the good spot?

Yes, the little one was originally planted on lower ground. It is now on a mound about 4' high.
The bigger one was on a slight slope so it did just a bit better. It is now planted in good gravel mix and on a mound that is over 2' high.
When I dug up the little one it had very little roots, probably rotted off every year in the lower ground. It is true about these j-trees, they need very well drained soil. Drainage is everything.
Sorry I repeat myself so much, I want to help anyone that reads this. 🙂
PS I don't think I watered the big one last year, once they start growing good I leave them alone because I don't want to rot them out. Of cource some yuccas don't mind extra water in the summer.

Thanks Tim. 😀
The good spots are for the most part just higher ground. 😀

Maybe under a roof overhang, Tim, on the south side?
You certainly have the mild winters for it to succeed if you protect from rain.

I would guess back east they may have trouble with root rot? Because I have had trouble with it here. 🙂

I recall growing J trees from seeds back about 2000/2001 and under a plastic roof they survived the winter....the next winter they saw more winter precipitation and they rotted out. 😥

Too bad, Tim.
But worth a try again...on a 3-foot tall mound under your eave. 😆

I'm thinking a mass planting................one must be more tolerant to moisture! 😉
