Glad I have a pic of BEFORE I covered it up.

Just using what I could find, there'll be no heat for the yucca.

One more heavy blue tarp will go over top.
I hope he doesn't suffocate under all that stuff.

Barb I hope you didn`t get stabbed to many times covering that Y. rigida x. Do you think it might be a little early yet for protection? It looks like it has done very well since you planted it.

John,
Yup, glad I was wearing glasses.

I agree it was too early, especially with our recent warm-up and sunshine.

At what overnight temps would you cover it?

Barb it looks like they are hardy to 0f -18c zone 6 so I would think they should be able to handle at least -10 c the first year with overhead protection from rain or snow. http://www.mswn.com/Plant%20Info%20Sheets/Yucca%20rigida.pdf

I removed one entire side of the protection, leaving plastic on in case of rain.
Vancouver's been getting buckets of rain w. flooding, we haven't had a drop in a week.

Thanks for that great link, and suggesting it was too early to cover it. 😀
Appreciate that!

OK -10 it'll be (no doubt)...

One of my favorite sites, lots of drool. Gives me that "I can't wait feeling". I think I would kill for a few of those dasylirion longissimums, WOW.

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Hey Barb ... looks like heaps of protection for that "Yucca rostrata x?". Do you know or suspect it to be a hybrid?

Rain? Oh ya ... man what a deluge! Today was nice and I got the dogs out for their walk. Very appeciative after cabin fever set in the last two days. Flood watch on the Nanaimo River here for those folks.

Cheers, Barrie.

Hi Barrie,

Yes it's a hybrid, I just can't remember WHAT...maybe rigida.
But as everyone knows many many crosses are possible within this group.
Someone said yuccas are the hookers of the plant world.
😆 😆

Removed the south side of yucca protection before the poor thing suffocated.
Too much work to remove the whole thing.
I'm glad John suggested it, it was pretty steamy in there although no sunlight gets through.

R A I N !!! Watching the weather, saw Tofino etc. Holy Torrents.
Is your place OK?
And more coming apparently.

Our weather office has been saying 40% chance of showers in Okanagan for the last FIVE days.
There's only dust in the rain gauge.

Thanks for the link on those Yuccas. Every time I see those Yuccas in Europe I can only dream of what it could be like here.
Barrie looks like the beginning of El Nino with all the rain on the coast and Vancouver Island.

Hey ... I left my wheel barrow out and it was full of rain water, only an inch from capacity.
Most places in the garden are dry just several inches down. We're on a grade which water freely runs off.
It'll be December before rain can penetrate down far enough in some situations.
Low lying areas are a much different story. I'm glad I put a new roof on the house this past September 🙂
More of the Hawaiian "Pineapple Express" headed our way tomorrow.

Cheers, Barrie.

Howabout sluts? 😯
Somehow I can't imagine a Yucca as a hooker?
or a slut for that matter 😕
