Can it be?
With only 3 C-9 Christmas lights and an uninsulated garbage can inverted over it, how can it be flushing now?

It still has a scale infection, evidenced by the brownish bumps on the leaves.
Poured vegetable oil on scale in the Fall, doesn't seem to have helped yet.

I doubt it. In cold climes we often observe the 'whitening' of the middle of a Yucca... Still don't know why!
Oh, poop! 😆

Barb, my guess is that it's low light levels. I have two potted Y. glauca which I haven't had a chance to plant, and during both winters indoors the central needles turned white-green on both plants, and this doesn't look like new growth to me.

Sounds likely, Cameron.
Not much light inside a garbage can.
So maybe I didn't notice the shorter central leaves in Fall when they were as green as the rest.

My outdoor boxed and constantly lit Medjool date is growing. Nice that your elata is too. Barb!

These plants don't really have a true dormancy period like many cold climate plants (Yucca 'may' but palms certainly do not)... Maybe the light coloured leaves are due to the plants trying to grow with low light levels (as Cameron suggests) combined with the colder then usual weather and COLD (frozen?) soil... My protected and unprotected Yucca do this over the winter too. Every winter. Without fail.

Same with my planted and protected Brahea armata, has a new spear.
Probably way too many C-9 lights in that protection.

Same with my plain old Y.filamentosa.

Hi Barb
if you had a warmish spell the Yuccas could be growing......but generally they don't grow outside here in my winter.....in the unheated garage is a different story. Yuccas will grow in winter and can be one of the more difficult plants to get through winter with limited light.....the soil must be on the dry side or they will continue to grow.

Interesting, Tim.
Tough to know what's warm...to a yucca. 😆
