Your plants looks great. But I have no idea what the first Yucca is, it's NOT aliofolia. Is the leaves serrated or not?

I have an advice for you. Plant your young yuccas deeper, when you plant them, this seems to make the plants grow faster, when they are planted too high they grow slower, and some plants might risk to tilt over, when they are blooming as mature later.

yes that 'aloifolia' does not have many aloifolia genes in it......likely a hybrid with another east coast Yucca. Were the seeds from the 'aloifolia' you received small and thick?

The purple leaf Yucca next to the 'aloifolia' appears to have more aloifolia genes in it......does that have serrated leaf edges?

Your 'big mama' filatas look great. It will be interesting to see what they will grow into. There may be variations between seedlings too. Big Mama leaves get longer, wider and thicker the season prior to it blooming. The leaves on my Big Mama now are shorter, narrow-er and less rigid but next season it should be in 'full glory' again. Here's a couple photos from 1 minute ago. 8)

Did your "big mama" resprout from the trunk or from the base of the old trunk?

the main trunk died on big mama after the bloom. 3 suckers emerged and I killed one trying to transplant it. Big Mama is difficult to propagate since the suckers are so close to the trunk and you can't get a section of root......perhaps now they are bigger and I can separate??

That is too bad, do you think it will be a trunker? I do know mine is growing faster than the other filatas I grew from seed. 😉

I see that my "big mama" has filiments and some of the other filatas dont. 😕

I recall Y. reverchonii-thompsoniana in bloom at the same time as Big Mama.....do you think any of your Big Mama seedlings have reverchonii-thompsoniana genes in them? That would be so cool. Can you post photos of the variations between seedlings?

I got from you Y. filata 'Big Mama' 2011 seeds (thank you 🙂 and two seedlings have reverchonii-thompsoniana genes. They have serrated leaf margins.

WOW.....that is great news that some of the reverchonii-thompsoniana pollen pollenated 'Big Mama'. I will have to germinate some of that seed too since it's getting old now. That hybrid should be an interesting one! Also, the reverchonii-thompsoniana Yucca was the only Yucca with a serrated leaf edge to flower that season we know for sure that those are Y. filata 'Big Mama' x 'reverchonii-thompsoniana'.

Please keep the updates coming on this hybrid. 8)

Great plant with a cool blue color, and lots of sprouts to propagate from.

I better check out my seedlings also 🙂 Maybe I am lucky too?

I just checked my records and I also had a Yucca rupicola which bloomed when Big Mama bloomed in 2011. Here are a few photos. So, those Yucca filata seedlings must have been pollenated by rupicola or the reverchonii-thompsoniana.

I pollenated a couple of the Y. rupicola seed pods but they aborted and fell off shortly after this photo.:cry:

Y. rupicola also have serrated leaf margins so if Y. filata 'Big Mama' was pollinated with Y. rupicola pollen that be also promising hybrid. Anyway I'm a happy whatever turn out to be.
