Just noticed these brown bumps today, it's definitely SCALE!!!!! 😡

Surprised that a planted yucca would have scale...more common in potted plants?

I have seen them on my yuccas as well, but they never do much. 🙂

Do you pick them off? or does winter kill them?
I've had a heck of a time with scale on my palms over the last couple of years.

I think I scraped them off. There was only a few.

I'll get out there tomorrow with the Q-tips and hydrogen peroxide.
Some are way down near the base, gonna be hard to get at.
Do you have a lot of ants at your place in the summer?
You may recall I read that ants "farm" scale in a symbiotic relationship.
Apparently getting rid of ants is part of the job to get rid of scale.
Never did succeed getting rid of them this year, even with putting out some boric acid powder in a jar lid.

I do have lots of ants, and they do spread and use the mealy-bugs outside. They get way down in the cactus where I can't reach, but just a bit of vegetable-oil kills them dead and gets way down where they hide. (the mealy-bugs that is.) Scale and mealy-bugs are related, so it might work, try on a plant of lesser value for a test run. 🙂
