Hello. I found a group of these yuccas growing in the woods just off of the road near my home. They appear to be growing wild, and aren't anywhere near any houses, and there's probably around 30 of them. Can anyone tell me what they are? They are a trunking yucca, about 2 feet tall with trunks about 6 inches long and 1.5 inches diameter. They look different from the normal non-trunking yucca that everyone grows around here. Any information is much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

That is Yucca flaccida (which I consider the same as Y. filamentosa, the common Yucca in gardens). It 'might' be native to your area if you're in extreme SW Indiana, otherwise it is almost certainly an escapee.

Paul, thanks for the reply. I had wondered if these were just the normal yucca filamentosa that grows everywhere around here, but what made me wonder was the fact that several of these yuccas had trunks, and I didn't think that filamentosa was trunking. I'm in SW Indiana, but not in the "extreme" SW... still a good 100 miles or so to the most sw part of the state. These are most likely something that was transplanted here, maybe years ago... I'm going to try to get the phone number of whoever owns this property and give them a call to ask if I could dig a few up, surely they wouldn't mind.
