water them throughout the summer

my ears are burning, Tim. 😆 😆

I used "dirt/dust from the yard" for my first yucca seeds a few years ago.
The last remaining y.rostrata from that batch is now all of 6 inches tall.

Your dirt must be better than my dust.

I'm putting steroids on my grocery list. 😆 😆

Hi Barb,

Yuccas LOVE sun, sun, sun, sun...........they love well draining soil with loads of moisture and root tip growth (get into the ground).

Yuccas hate water logged soil......pour water on top of the soil and it should drain very fast.......if water ponds on top of the soil for more than seconds and/or if water sits in the root area you'll have problems. 8)

Thanks for the reminder, Tim, that they love water as long as soil is fast draining.

No shortage of heat/sun here, gotta remember the water.

I almost never water yuccas in the ground. I might try that with my sandy soils, if you guys say they gonna grow faster. I'm not planning on watering Y. baccata, tho.

Snowing? It's a freaking snowy armageddon here 😆 This kind of "spring" happened for the first time in my life. My yuccas need sun! 👿

Probably just dandruff.

What do you think about planting my small yuccas outside and potting up for winter? I know they grow few times faster when in the ground.

I'd keep the Yuccas in the ground not in containers. 8)

Tim, the first winter here in the ground might kill'em. I always wait 2-3 years before planting.

Hi Marceli,

if you have a good, sunny location then your containerized Yucca seedlings will be fine in winter......I don't have a nice, sunny location; therefore, my seedlings do worse inside my garage than they do outside. The only species of seedlings I don't keep outside would be the 'tender' species like rostrata, treculeana, aloifolia, schottii, etc...

Marceli, a winter cover has made a very nice job. It works in spite of COLD and snow! Unlikely I would be able planting my yuccas into the ground. They will have been keeping in my unheated GH.
