Andy, That rostrata with the long -blue leaves is very cool. 8) I have never seen one like that before.

Sorry to hear about the green form, hope it does better.

Thanks for sharing.

Does your 'rostrata' have a serrated leaf edge?

Tim, I took a much closer look and no it does not have serrated leaves. So I than looked at all my rostratas and half have serrated leaves and half dont.
PS. I also grew thompsoniana that year and some got mixed up. 😕

Hi Aaron

Sorry for the long delay. Y. thompsoniana has a serrated leaf edge. Y. rostrata can have a serrated leaf edge. The rostrata form without a serration is called Y. Rostrata v integra. The two rostrata I have are somewhat intermediate......the serration is not pronounced but is there.

Ok, that explains it. I had some thompsoniana mixed up with the rostrata. 😉

Now I'm going to have to check mine.
I don't see any serration but maybe it's because they're only a few years old?
Having said that, I still wouldn't run my hand along my rostrata leaves...ouch.

Similar to a ponytail palm...would shred fingers.

Thanks Tim.

To clarify......most rostrata will have a serrated leaf edge. The form of rostrata without a serrated leaf edge is the variety called 'integra'. Thomposoniana leaves will generally be shorter in length and will have more rigid leaves when compared to rostrata. 8)

My rostratas must be "interga" 😉 Because they are smooth... 8)

Mine too, then.

So mine are Yucca Rostrata "Integra" var Sapphire Skies? (gasp...breathing again).

Even enlarging this pic, there's not a hint of serration:

But they're still sharp to touch.

Thanks!

you may have to take a closer photo of the leaf edge or feel the serrations with your finger. 😯

The serrations are not as pronounced as Yucca aloifolia.

Mario took a nice close up photo showing small serrations......not a rostrata but similar in appearance.

Holy cow, Tim and Mario, great camera took that great photo.

My little Cybershot can't do it 😆 😆

But yes, I could feel the serrations.
Thanks! 😀

very narrow leaf form of Y. rostrata.....I like it. It kinda reminds me Y. linearifolia too. 8)

I noticed last summer the leaves are growing wider now. 🙂
