My favorite new seedling is Yucca rupicola. Wide, very blue, fast strong growth.

Yes I have a Yucca guatemaulensis planted outdoors, no protection (rated zone 9). It dies back each year and new growth begins showing in June.
Had my rigida planted out last year and it died over winter. Lucky I took an offset of it and can give it another go if I want.

Wow, Adam!

Looking forward to seeing some pics of them in the ground as they get going.

o! That's very interesting for me Adam. I started "a project" with four Yucca guatemaulensis in the ground last summer. Now their first winter in the ground with some "tyre protection" As far I can see they're doing quite well. But it was no such big freezy as can be here in Poland.

Can you show us how do your Yucca guatemaulensis look like after winters?

Below is one of mine:

Keep exoting!

Nice list Adam. Nice to hear Y. Aloifolia surviving outdoors in ON........you must have a nice microclimate. Do you have a photo of it? Is your Y. Harrimaniae a 'gilbertiana'? My Yucca seed pods are almost cleaned and will be mailing seed out soon.

Barb, thanks, more pics are to come.

Godfryd, after winter, the guatemaulensis is absolutely gone. The leaves are bleached white by the cold and are gone by last frost in March. Back to life in June. Yours looks like it is doing well in the tire under glass!

Tim, our aloifolia green did well last winter , but the aloifolia variegata did not. Our microclimate is unique and we plant the most sensitive along our south wall. We put our aloifolia variegata in a better spot, under glass this winter. The harrimaniae is actually listed as 'Gilbernana' but I think it is 'Gilbertiana'. Perfect time for mailing seed.

Igor, absolutely let me know if you ever plan to visit. We are just an hour away from Toronto.

Hey man- I just dug out some of the seeds I collected on my SW trip in 2009. I have a bunch of seeds from Yucca kanabensis, which is very blue but narrower in leaf than rupicola. You're welcome to some. I also have Yucca elata ssp. veridensis, the hardiest Agave (utahensis ssp. kaibabensis), and a few others.

Let me know if you're able to overwinter the alofolia. I have a friend who is introducing a hybrid form which is at least 10 degrees hardier, and well suited to the climate here!

Hey Paul,

did you test the Y. kanabensis in Kingston? I wonder how they hold up to that cold???

Tim,

I did try a bunch of them. None have been hardy. I'm starting a few more now, and will let them get to 2 gallon size before I plant them out... See if that does the trick! I think the record lows where I collected them are in the -25F range!

I've heard reports that A. utahensis v kaibabensis can take lots of cold as long as it's dry cold. No luck in my area with them....or any Agave.

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.
