I just took these pics of my 8 yuccas: 😯
Any ideas what's going on?

This appears to be the only one still asleep:

They look happy!! I am sure they have had enough of winter and now they are showing you that

Exactly Barb ... they are starting new growth as I'm sure you've surmised. I've also noticed new growth on my Yucca recurvifolia. Nothing though on Y. treculeana, Y. aloifolia, Y. schottii, Y. bacatta, Y. faxoniana, Y. schidigera although some new growth on Y. rostrata (another story).

Cheers, Barrie.

Ya, but you're on Vancouver Island, Barrie, where you don't even have winter, right macario? 😆 😆

In my 30 years here, have never seen them break 1.5 months early!

Wonder if John and Jay are seeing the same thing?

"Ya, but you're on Vancouver Island, Barrie, where you don't even have winter"

We do have winter Barb ... a rainy, windy mess, punctuated or interupted by light frosty weather and ephemeral wet snow. Hey, even throw in the rare "Artic outbreak" and temps dive-bomb to -7c to maybe -10c for a night 😯 . I'm living on the edge of what's possible for me ... me being the Canadian winter wimp 😆 .

Cheers, Barrie.

It has been quite warm here but the yuccas are still buried under the snow.

You don't have to be crazy to grow palms in Alberta..... But it helps

Barb I already see new growth on my in ground planted Trachy and Needle palms. My other cold hardy palms are out of the palm garage. Friends of mine have been golfing for a week already in Osoyoos and Penticton. Nice to see your yuccas doing great.

Nobody seems surprised plants are growing this early!

Tomorrow, I'll haul the big Trachy pot outside.

Barrie,
You mention that you had one.
Do provide it with overhead protection at all. Can it stand our wet winters?
Mine looks great but it did have overhead protection.

Very warm and sunny today. Trachies are putting out new fronds.

Now a year later, it's 2010 and look what they're doing AGAIN.
Spears feel very full.
Two years in a row--mid February!
