I am new to Yucca, but they look good and should do well in my climate.
I planted a potted trunkless Yucca rostrata "sapphire skies" recently and that was easy.
So, I bought a trunked Yucca rostrata. Problem is, not much in the way of roots. Vendor--who I trust--says just leave it alone.
But, what do you think? Specifically, should I make up a batch of my 5-10-5 + IBA (indole-5-butyric adic) solution?

Hmmmmmm.

Ya know eric, cacti/desert plants are pretty tough. If your worried about the roots mabey using that root stuff u mentioned at half or 1/4 strength?

I would water it with Superthrive or a similar product all summer-
do not fertilize it.

Ooooh, that's a beaut, Erik.

The little yucca rostratas I received a few years ago had sparse roots too, but rooted in really well with no fertilizer.
Never skipped a beat with regular waterings the first summer.

I'm leery about fertilizing desert plants because in habitat, there's not a lot of microbial activity going on in the hot, rocky/sandy soils.

no fertilizer needed........they love heat. Keep the roots warm and you'll be fine......they rooted up here in Massachusetts so I'm sure you'll be fine. I started mine in black pots so they warm up during the day. OK heat is much more than here. I recall working the summer in Shawnee, OK and the coldest day that summer was 89F.....LOL. 89F is a hot day here.

Tim,
thanks!
I appreciate the Yucca insights of you, Aaron and others here. Agavacea are new to me but I like them, and W confessed she likes them more than palms anyway so probably more in the future. --Erik

They'll have no problem rooting. You don't even need to use hormones.

Thanks. Plan as of now is to do what the vendor said and not do anything special, just be patient.
