Here's an update photo of Benny's #2142 Y. gloriosa x flaccida hybrid. It has these strange 'pleats' in all the leaves.........all season. Typically strange growth goes away after a month or two. I'm thinking it will bloom next season since it's getting larger now.......who knows, with those gloriosa genes it may bloom in the fall? I'll try to get a better photo......these darn phone cameras aren't the best.

Benny that is a beatiful Yucca, with the near silver colour on the net looking pleats.
If the pleats and silver stick, may I suggest the name 'silver ruffle' ? πŸ™‚

Is it truly as blue as it looks in that picture?

Hi Paul.......that photo was taken with a phone camera (so were talking super high quality photos here )......the Yucca does have a lot of 'glauca' on the leaves. Let me use another camera and I'll cut off a 'normal' Yucca leaf from another Yucca for comparison. The blue-ist leaves have to be the hybrids of Y. fila x rostrata by Benny.

Hello Tim,

It is always so nice to see, how the hybrids I have created, will grow in your perfect yucca-climate. The seeds from the motherplant to this hybrid has not germinated well, so it makes me even more happy to see, that you have one which grow very well and looks great the same time.

The parents for this hybrid I made in 2008, is a summer-flowering Yucca sp. [gloriosa forma robusta] "Hæstrupvej" x flaccida [forma glaucescens]. The seedparent is a giant Yucca which looks very much like a the description of Yucca gloriosa forma robusta. I have found in a garden in a small village close to our home. The garden is located on Hæstrupvej (Danish word vej = street), hence the "affixed name". The pollenparent is a Yucca flaccida which quite well looks as the description of Yucca flaccida forma glaucescens. Both of the parents for his hybrid has quite glaucous leaf-color. I had two seedpods of this crossing they were numbered BMJ # 2141, # 2142.

Seed parent in the garden on Hæstrupvej:

Pollenparent, is growing in a pot, that's why it so small!:

Tim, How does the leaves look in spring? Any leaf-spots? Keep us updated next spring.

Have a nice day

Benny

here are a few photos of the 2142 leaves.

this is NOT 2142....this is Y. gloriosa variegata for comparision

Here is 2142 in 2011

Here is 2142 in 2012

Overall, it performs very well in my climate. I have no complaints.
