Hello

I've read that there are native yuccas in Alberta and Saskatchewan. I have seen yuccas in the BC interior but I don't know if those (seen) are native. Is there a nursery in the BC interior that sells native yuccas? Nursery yuccas that I've seen in Victoria & Vancouver are imported. Anyone with photos? I'm trying a mix of yuccas and palms for my garden. T. fortunei & Y. recurvifolia are generic in Victoria so I want a mix of hardy exotics. It would be nice to have stuff from the interior or Alberta.

BTW we have a transplant from Edmonton growing a big T. fortunei in central Victoria. I can post a pic once I drive near the area.

Cheers

There should be more palms at English Bay.

As far as I know there are no Yuccas native to Alberta. We do have a few cacti varieties that are native. I have a Yucca filamentosa Golden Sword and a Yucca flacida Garland Gold in their second winter unprotected.

Here they are peaking out of the snow.

They are still relatively small but doing well.

All pics are welcome...especially in winter.

You don't have to be crazy to grow palms in Alberta..... But it helps

Yucca Glauca is native to Southern Alberta.

Thanks. I learned something new today.

I will try to get one for my desert.

The report also records a cactus that I did not know was native to Alberta--Mamillaria vivipara, pincushion cactus. Hopefully I can find one of those to add to the desert.
