The lastest great weather has one of my Yucca recurvifolia pushing a flower spike. Should be blooming in the next couple of weeks. This was a recovery that someone had hacked down and tossed into a vacant lot. I planted the stem last year and it's done nicely since.

Cheers, Barrie.

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Barrie nice to see they can be planted that easily from a chop down. Did you use any root hormone?

None John ... I just buried about a foot of trunk in the ground and kept it watered.

Cheers, Barrie.

Update ~ about a week away from flowering now. The buds are close to opening, on this rainy day.

Cheers, Barrie.

Do my eyes deceive me or is the photo (second from last pic) showing/hiding a trunk 😯

Yes Barb, it does look as though the tallest crown is suspended in mid air. Here's a shot from the reverse side which shows the trunk.

Cheers, Barrie.

Wow, that's a beauty! Spectacular trunk.

What's your guess as to age? 10 years? 15?

It amazes me someone would throw this away 😯 😀

Barb, do you have any recurvifolias? They are awesome yuccas and can grow fast. If you don't have any I can give you a start next year or pic one up in Arizona and send it to you next spring. 🙂

Haven't got a recurv...

lemmee do a head count:
one 15 gallon rostrata, six 8 year old filamentosas, six 2 year old rostratas from Plant Delights nursery in N.Carolina, had 10 rostratas I germinated (the herd continues to thin; now down to 2).

I might be able to squeeze one more yucca in around here somewhere. 😆 😆

That's so kind, Aaron, but I'm
worried about the border gestapo confiscating any lovely young plant/start.
Thanks.

Barb they brought some 15 gal Y.recurvifolia into Bylands nursery last spring. Hopefully they bring some more in next year.

I'll look around town in early spring, versus driving 100 miles.
It will probably be labelled "tropical foliage". 😆
Thanks.

Barrie, hope you take some pics as the flowers open.
(end of November...that must be a first!)

It's not every year that will happen but it's not uncommon either. I wonder if the big Y. recurvifolia group of plantings across from the Richmond General Hospital are still there? 15 years ago they where quite sizeable and should be monsters now if they're still there.

Cheers, Barrie.
