This is probably the only trunked Yucca growing at the wonderful Pan Global Plants Garden bearing in mind that he lost all his palms (Jubaea, Butias,Chamaerops, Trachycarpus to a -18C/-0.4F in December '10. What amazed me was that this yucca didn't even flinch. Nick Macer the owner actually thought it was a Linearifolia but the leaves are too wide. So a big hand for this handsome beast that enjoys our really wet climate

Dead Butia trunk

great Yucca specimen.............It doesn't look like the 'normal' rostrata. Y. rostrata can be a USDA zone 5b plant when grown in dryer conditions like Denver, CO.

What plants survived in Pan Global's gardens that cold winter? Did Fatsia survive? Did any of the hardy Scheffleras survive?

Ooooh, I love that, Andy!

lost all his palms (Jubaea, Butias,Chamaerops, Trachycarpus to a -18C/-0.4F in December '10.

That's dreadful.
I'd be devastated.

I agree, I never seen a yucca like it. But I do like it. 😯 8)

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Thanks for your comments 😀 In some ways I was expecting someone to say that its not a Rostrata. I just don't know what else it could probably be except perhaps a hybrid
Tim.... although he sells Schefflera he does not grow them in the garden. After the end of Global Warming and the start of cold freezing Winters Nick does not specialize in palms anymore but specialises in rare hardy plants. He still has his private collection of Agaves and rare exotics but specialises particularly in Magnolias. I still miss a bit of his extravagance including his massie Agave Americana

That pic taken in June 2010 also suffered a bad Winter previous before the calamitous December 10
Some Yuccas now long gone

re the castle pic, are you saying he lost those 3TRACHIES???? 😯

To only a brief exposure to -18C -0.4F in 2010???

If so, ours are doomed... 😕

Hi Andy,

not sure it's a typical Y. linearifolia either. 😕

kinda similar to this Y. aloifolia x elata hybrid we call Y. 'bische' but I think your's is different.

http://yuccaundanderefreilandsukkulenten.xobor.de/t462f3-Bische-update.html

Those Y. rostratas died in the cold but the unknown Yucca survived? WOW. I want a root!!!!! 😉
