Hope it's ok to post this here. While mostly just a palm fan, I can't pass up cool looking hard to find (around here) tropical plants and found this variegated Jade plant at a nursery near Omaha. All large 2 gallon Jades were just $20!

Green ones are a dime a dozen, but had never seen one like this, so had to have it.

Scott, I've never even heard of a variegated Jade.
It is absolutely gorgeous, nice find.

BTW you could, next time, post it under Other Plants of Interest.
But no problem (as though we don't jump around within posts 😆 😆 )

The trick with a jade is to keep it in a non-glazed clay pot.
That way even if you tend to overwater a bit, and most people do, it won't hurt it.

My jade's old as the hills and takes 4 of us to get it onto the patio in summer.
It'll sunburn if in hot sun, so mine gets only morning sun.
Loves it outside all summer...robins even try to nest in it. 😐

Thanks Barb, I did go to a Jade website and they too suggested a clay only pot, or at least one that was porous to let moisture escape. I suppose for plants especially left outside where they might get rained on.

What??? lol. Mine is in the sunniest hottest window I can find, i let it almost totally dry out between waterings. Its the only way i have been able to keep a jade tree alive. I put it in full sun all summer to, and it loves it......

Then again..... I kill aloe vera in that same situation. Ive only been able to keep them alive in western light, in coolish spots.....

That's why an unglazed (on both inside and out) clay pot is good, just in case it doesn't totally dry out between waterings for some people.

You keep it INSIDE in summer? 😯

Yup mine sunburns...maybe a variegated can take more sun, I don't know.

Holy shite!

That is a monster for $20!

I have a small one that I love-I just hope it doesn't get ripped like my last Jade.

Bill and I were already discussing different security measures I could take...

I would sure hate to lose this one.

I would think the variegated ones are more prone to sun stress than the green ones....
any indoor window(east west south)would work great and a eastern exposure or
dabbled sun all day should be perfect outside.

Website I was on said the variegation was due to a virus in the plant that changes pigmentation because it messes with the Chlorophyll.

Just about every "leaf" is different. The small(not really that small) were just $9

Yeah, Jim, speaking of stolen plants.
What measures have you taken since that happened (last year? year before that?)
Motion sensor lights?
Rottweiler?
Gun with a string? 😆 😆

And don't say to keep only the ugly plants on the porch.

We PNers don't have any ugly stuff. 😀
