These get nicer each year, despite being in blazing sun until about 2pm

Very nice! 😀 These are quite happy in the blistering sun of the Okanagan region. I think these have a reddish colored bloom do they not?

Cheers, Barrie.

Many of the genus/species (?) do have a reddish colored flower.

I had a "propeller plant", also a succulent, that bloomed with a lovely rust-colored spike.
Sadly, it didn't make it through winter as I had only thrown a blanket over it in its sheltered corner.

will post pic when they open.

Here's to all the global warming pushers, may your winters be -30 below and four feet of snow in your driveway. Because I want you happy.

Hi Aaron,
They've been planted out since around end of April.
Will re-pot them in September to go back into the barely-heated building.

One thing I found interesting last year:
when I set them out into sun, the sun was already strong and many of the leaf tips went mushy from
sunburn. People suggested "they're fried" and that they would not recover.

I didn't cut off the sunburned areas, just left them, and within a month they recovered fully.

This year was different...no sun in April, so no sunburn. 😆

Thanks folks.
Can't remember how old these plants are, approx 8 or 9 years for this first blossom.

It is nice to see something blooming. I was looking at the snow, again. Luckily we're up north- only 1/2" not like up to a foot in Southern Alberta.

Allen

You don't have to be crazy to grow palms in Alberta..... But it helps

Allen,
Dandelions are starting up (GRRRRR!)...hate 'em.

Everything else will be a lot later this year.

It's also snowing southeast of us in the Kootenays, so you're not alone.

Are those hardy? They are so beautiful 😛
I bought some rolled leaf green ones that are supposed to be hardy in a zone 5, but only time will tell. 🙂

Unfortunately, they're not hardy, Aaron.
I always dig them up before the first frost and bring them into a cool building for the entire winter, keeping them dry.
Maybe too dry (hence the bloom) 😆

Someone suggested that Echeveria includes Hens-and-Chicks plants, which I do have growing outdoors.
They are bulletproof but I wouldn't try any of these others outdoors for winter.

To bad, those would be awesome in the garden(year-round). Of course it still is 😉

I will try and post some pics of the one I have, not your typical hen and chicks. It is supossed to be hardy in a zone 5, but it came from a nursery in Las Vegas, so how would they know. 😆
