The one in the biggest pot is from Big momma..

The one to the left is a Thompsoniana x from Kory
in Minnesota -don't recall the other x -Elata?

Ones in the smaller pots from Tim too-thx Tim

Some left over Y.Aloifolia removed from the cactus
garden after they hit 6' in 3 years.

<a href="http://s297.photobucket.com/user/orbea6 ... 8.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm22 ... eb90f8.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 100_9607_zps57eb90f8.jpg"/></a>

<a href="http://s297.photobucket.com/user/orbea6 ... 8.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm22 ... 7be188.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 100_9606_zps1a7be188.jpg"/></a>

Colorgaurd recovering from the winter.

<a href="http://s297.photobucket.com/user/orbea6 ... 8.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm22 ... bd79d8.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 100_9605_zps1fbd79d8.jpg"/></a>

Heres what I planted where the Aloifolia were, variegated one just has more bling-
I have a couple "extra" if anyone is interested.

<a href="http://s297.photobucket.com/user/orbea6 ... d.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm22 ... f1566d.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 100_9608_zpsa9f1566d.jpg"/></a>

Three headed Gloriosa...thinking about removing
the lower leaves to bring the focus back to the top...any opinions?

<a href="http://s297.photobucket.com/user/orbea6 ... 7.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm22 ... 2f3637.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 100_9609_zpsfb2f3637.jpg"/></a>

Rostrata had half dozen tiny leaves small enough to lay on the gravel when it was planted in 2008.

<a href="http://s297.photobucket.com/user/orbea6 ... 4.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm22 ... 909db4.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 100_9610_zpsb4909db4.jpg"/></a>

AGAVE.

I have no idea what kind of agave this is-it started
as a shoot, presumably off an A.Parryi that turned
out to be A.americana judging by the fact it died
from temps in the 15-20F range...this shoot made
it,came up 5' away and has somehow survived temps
that had to have been at least 10F(or colder) when it was small.

<a href="http://s297.photobucket.com/user/orbea6 ... 1.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm22 ... 364151.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 100_9619_zps24364151.jpg"/></a>

and look at this shoot off the same plant-coming out from
an old stump-tenacious!

<a href="http://s297.photobucket.com/user/orbea6 ... e.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm22 ... 0fb36e.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 100_9620_zps370fb36e.jpg"/></a>

A.Neomexicana-very sloooooow up to this size-
gaining some speed now though.

<a href="http://s297.photobucket.com/user/orbea6 ... 7.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm22 ... 86d097.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 100_9618_zps3786d097.jpg"/></a>

Very small growing agave from my sister in Cali-not very hardy at all.

<a href="http://s297.photobucket.com/user/orbea6 ... a.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm22 ... 2a797a.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 100_9621_zpsf42a797a.jpg"/></a>

Was this from you Fred? A.Protoamericana?

<a href="http://s297.photobucket.com/user/orbea6 ... 6.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm22 ... 3e3116.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 100_9617_zpsf03e3116.jpg"/></a>

A real A.Parryi

<a href="http://s297.photobucket.com/user/orbea6 ... f.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm22 ... 4f0c2f.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 100_9616_zps844f0c2f.jpg"/></a>

This was sold as A.Parryi(blue form)-not sure what it is but it looks like it wants to pass the Havardiana.

<a href="http://s297.photobucket.com/user/orbea6 ... 8.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm22 ... 285e58.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 100_9614_zpsbe285e58.jpg"/></a>

A.Havardiana-what a beast this thing is,the inner core is fatter than a telephone pole.

<a href="http://s297.photobucket.com/user/orbea6 ... c.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm22 ... 1e203c.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 100_9615_zps291e203c.jpg"/></a>

A.Americana/variegated A.Americana-

<a href="http://s297.photobucket.com/user/orbea6 ... b.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm22 ... 7b3cab.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 100_9612_zpscc7b3cab.jpg"/></a>

A.Mediopicta Alba

One of my favorites.

<a href="http://s297.photobucket.com/user/orbea6 ... 9.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm22 ... 9da639.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 100_9613_zpsee9da639.jpg"/></a>

finish with a few jade plants----------

<a href="http://s297.photobucket.com/user/orbea6 ... 4.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm22 ... 8b2534.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 100_9622_zpsd28b2534.jpg"/></a>

Awesome garden, thanks for sharing.

Some great plants there Jim. I am so in awe of your Yucca Rostrata... never seen so many leaves on a plant. Your Agaves are awesome. My guess on that Parryi blue form would be Agave Americana Expansa

Thats a good call,I will check it a little closer against some web info/pics....thx

I was doubtful at first because of hardiness ratings but they say they grow at 3000-6000'
so that should make them pretty tough- not far off Parryi cold tolerance I would suspect.

Andy

It looks so similar to both of the ones mentioned...the one difference
I see is the pattern where the old leaves pulled away from the new/center spear.
Agave Americana Expansa has a very unique pattern on the side(edge)and if
I remember correctly, mine has more of the curved imprints of A. Palmeri

Heres a picture of it in May- 2010

Jim, your succulents keep growing.... What's a size, what's a power! Looks like some of your agaves will be blooming pretty soon!

Thanks Igor!

I look all the time for a bloom-stalk on the Havardiana-it is such a beast!

Hey Jim I'm amazed yours hasn't flowered. This one flowered on the Arid bed at Cotswold Garden Flowers in Badsey, Evesham at the end of May when I visited to buy ....Agaves

Love all the agaves Jim. I have to agree with desertzone on your agave id. You know I never believed it was parryi. And the place you bought it from sells palmeri too, right?

I have several agaves that died this winter coming back from root so its not suprising to see little pups pop up everywhere.

Yea...thanks...that has been kinda settled finally thanks to Aaron...
I never saw Palmeri listed then so I am not sure how it happened...he does list it now though...

AG009: Agave palmeri (high altitude form)

Palmer's Agave is a tall, slender leaved species 48" tall by 60" wide. This selection is from seed collected at 5600 feet in the mountains. It is hardy to 10 degrees F. It may be hybridized with Agave parryi due to its close proximity, which would make it even hardier. Beautiful blue-green horizontal striations on the leaves. 2 year old plants $10.

Hi Jim

Big Mama is an unusually large form of Yucca 'filamentosa x elata'. The leaves are just over 3 feet in length and much wider than the normal 'filamentosa x elata' hybrid.

The other Yucca from Kory is Yucca thompsoniana x (filamentosa x elata 'Big Mama'). Kory had the Y. thompsoniana and I mailed him Y. big mama pollen.

What about Big Mama's leaves? Do they massively wither and dry like gloriosa's leaves during cold weather and then recover very fast?

Need to ask Tim in Massachusetts about that one.

Incredibly beautiful Jim, especially that tenacious seedling coming through the stump.

Ah...big mamas.
Reminds me I still haven't planted mine.
IMO rostratas are at the top of the beauty list.
