Box-Store Tropicals

Post by Paul Ont » Mon May 23, 2011 4:57 am

Went to Loblaws yesterday (similar to Superstore in Atlantic Canada, don't know what it's called out west, or maybe something like Publix in the states) and checked out their plants. Mostly they have the standard stuff: Geraniums, Veggies, Holly, Rhodos, grasses, and the like. However, they also had a display out front with bananas, Taro, Passiflora, and some other true tropicals. The plants were 1 gallons retailing for $9.99 each. What caught my attention was that they had M. 'Basjoo', Taro 'Black Magic' and Taro 'Thailand Giant'. I elected not to pick any up, but, I think this shows that exotic look gardening is starting to catch on here!

Damn paul...

ITs superstore here, and out west fyi........

The store here doesnt have things like that. Although, they are selling 4 foot oleander for 20 bucks!!!!! Same with some 3 foot gardenia. There was also some crepe myrtle. I just took a quick look, but I definetly wouldve seen passies, musa, and taro there if they were.

Ill have to check back in a week though. The stores are aperantly pretty general with their plants..

Thanks for the heads up!!
