My two poor trachys look like they're headed for doom. I have covered them to keep the moisture out...applied fungicide in hopes to remedy the white mold problem on the center spear. It hasn't grown at all, just keeps getting more brown and wilted. I'm tugging gently to check for spear pull and so far that seems to be okay. It's been raining non stop for a few days so when I can get a chance I'll get some pictures, but I really don't think these guys are going to survive. One of my two Musa Basjoos are dead as well. Canna Lillies didn't come up so far either. Not sure what more I've lost, it's a wait-and-see....this was a brutal winter for most of us, if not all but I'm not giving up completely yet.

Hopefully some of the real Trachy experts here can offer suggestions.
Mine are all growing now despite super record cold, but it has also been unusually dry until the past week.
I did apply fungicide to the most cold-damaged Trachy in March. It lost all foliage and had white fungus in the crown. I guess the combination of fungicide and no rain made the difference.
But again, I'd like to hear from our Trachyologists. --Erik

I'm sorry to hear this, I guess all you can do is wait it out and see..Also, did you say white mold? Could you take a picture of the mold? My trachy has some white spots on it that rub off (bigger than mealy bugs)

Erik I'm so glad yours are pulling through...if it weren't for so much constant moisture mine wouldn't be as bad. I'm still hopeful

F1aReD thank you for your comment, welcome to the forum I don't think I've met you before. I haven't been on as much as I used to, so I'm missing out a bit! I will take a picture of the centre spear, but I think the fungicide I used got rid of most of the most part. Are your spots under the leaves? I find those under mine too but rub them off with paper towel and water/soap spray diluted.

Heidi, I doubt your Trachies are succumbing to a cold winter.
Especially in Vancouver.
They're not first year palms and should be bouncing back now, after you applied fungicide.

Brown and wilted isn't good.
Strange ... because H's enclosure had an airspace just under the roof to dispel moisture build-up.

Hi Barb - thanks, I'll get some pics up very soon. I wondered why both tree are brown and wilted, especially being established for 3 years now. I expected the damage to be more to the other tree but not both. yeah...the spears are brown, soft, wilted and no growth. not good.

This is quite the long shot, Heidi, but sometimes young kids pour drinks on plants (mostly potted plants).
It's happened around here now and then.

Thanks, it's nice to meet/chat with new people! I have been on the forums for less than a month now and am already learning new things. Some of the spots that are on mine are tiny and some are bigger, and they almost look like a spot of dry toothpaste if that makes any sense. Just out of curiosity, what type of fungicide do you use?

Hi Andy, I use Defender (by the Safer's brand). Have you tried spraying a bit of dish soap diluted in water to wash it off? maybe I or some other folks on here can help identify the problem if you posted some pictures?

I don't want to take over your post (lol). I will put some pictures in my other post and wash it off with diluted dish soap like you suggested.

No worries Andy in case it's bugs the solution spray should help get rid of it. I would post a new topic for this so others can chime in with their opinions too. Hope it works!
