I think this plant grows more below ground but it's doing well and getting established.

Jim-
Great pics! I love how everything is growing super fast. I'm intrigued by your castor bean growth. Mine are maybe a little smaller than your first pic from 6-4 right now. I planted them in pots in early May and put them in the ground two weeks ago. The are going SO SLOW. I don't get it. Maybe I should have direct sowed in the ground? How did you grow monsters?

15+" of rain(more coming right now)and ridiculously warm temps-we have a streak of
28 days 80 or more!
Our avg temps since May 22 are about 65-86-that's what does it,heat and water.
That is what they respond too, also try some composted manure around them built up into rings so when you water it stays in there
and only goes to the Castors.

Everything is looking great Jim! Your castor beans are trumping mine right now... (are yours the giant zanzibar variety? I think it was you that recommended those to me, and that's what I've got growing this year) House looks great too... Did you do some work on it this year, or was I just paying more attention to the plants in your pics from previous years?
That is cool Jim!!!
I think you might have to upgrade your little 4" pot picture buddy to a 3 gallon size before long
Now I can see that canna better it's a nice one. I really like that tetra panex I think I'm going to have to seek some of that out this year before I run out of room.
The house is looking great with the new paint on it too. I can't wait to see that front on picture at the end of the year I think that's my favorite view.

Yea Erik
I painted the bottom half off the house(good eyes)that's why you don't see the top half in the picture
These Castors are supposed to be the large leaved variety I had last year with the 42" leaves but....
I think they are different because those had red/bronze colored petioles.
Water the $&!^ out of the Castors and use some composted manure(bananas, etc too),they love that stuff.
Looking at the pictures really shows how fast they grow, they love heat(esp warm nights)and we have had a ton of rain.
You probably can't tell from the first Gunnera pic since there is no reference point but it is really speeding up,
the leaves in the first pic are the size of the new one in the second pic
Looks like officially 2.29" of rain last night bringing our total since May 9 to 17.21
They already have a flash fllod watch out through Monday(it's clear out now )2-3" expected tonight, locally up to 5"
wtf

Jim...wow, fabulous.
You'll have to buy the house across the street just to see your place soon.
...and folks, he's taking over the boulevard!
I'm stunned by the amount of growth you've had....the yuccas, itinerans, abyssinian, holy cow!
Bill, he'll be able to stand on the abyssinian's crown to paint the second floor.

I am not sure that these are the same ones I got last year with the massive leaves-
those had a reddish color to the stems and these are more gray.

Eventually the extra bananas and what nots will end up there,it is much more exposed but
the main reason so far is it's city property and they tend to like to dig things up on their property.
.................but eventually.
