I've found Oleander plants around 5-6 feet tall for sale at Lowe's and Walmart here in zone 6a southern Indiana this year. Seems odd to me that these places would sell these plants with a 1 year guarantee when they are rated to zone 8a. I'm thinking about trying one. Anyone have any input on these?

I would think in your area you could treat it as a perienial. You would probrably lose most of the topside growth each winter but summers in your area are pretty warm and regrowth would be quick. Oleanders are quick growers if root systems are well established. Even here in S.C. there can be winter damage, but heavy pruning of damaged limbs always results in rapid regrowth. Key would be to get a well established root system.

I planted three hardy pinks last year and two out of the three made it for sure. The one closest to the road that gets the most sun is
growing back quickly like penny said. They where planted from 7 gallon pots.

I got a bush of full-flower pink oleander. It was killed down to the woody parts last winter (-11F), but is now regrowing. No signs of flowering yet though. Here's a pic of it as of two weeks ago.

I'm planning to get an plain-flower form, they are said to be hardier and need less heat to bloom. Also i can say that here they flower at their best when somewhat restricted in water. Also they seem to totally fail in comditions other than full sun here.

Did you plant one or what? Two of mine survived and the other would have came back but no room so I chucked it. This winter I think it will sail through much better with a black bag wrap.
