Moving well established banana plants

We would like to me our banana plants, but not sure if now is the time to do so or should wait until unwrapping. I usually unwrap according to the Old Farmers Almanac suggested frost dates. Also, just how extensive is the root system?

Hi Kyle, so many banana experts here...they must've missed this.

BTW welcome to PN!

What type of banana? Basjoo's I'm guessing? I've transplanted mine into other areas of my garden, and given starts to others as late as mid-june. They don't seem to like the transplanting, but all of the ones I've transplanted in the past always came around rather well after a month or so, grew to around 5 feet or so the same year, and had several pups as well. So honestly, I wouldn't worry too much about it, because they seem to be pretty tough plants. Probably wont get much growth the year of transplanting, but after that they should be pretty comparable to the original location.
